“If You Want to Go Fast, Go Alone. If You Want to Go Far, Go Together”
African proverb
In the heart of San Francisco’s Latinx immigrant community, the power of intergenerational power building thrives within PODER. Here, the concept of community forms the foundation for intergenerational leadership development, recognizing the profound significance of community bonds and kinship. It’s all about treating each other like familia.
PODER believes that everyone has a role to play, no matter their age. We make sure that young folks and older folks have leadership positions and learn from each other. We know that everyone has something to teach and something to learn. The passion and energy of the youth combined with the wisdom and guidance of the older community members, enhance our collective efforts. As a result, intergenerational leadership flourishes within the PODER familia, amplifying all voices and sparking a united vision to tackle the pressing environmental and economic justice issues of our community in San Francisco.
