Building resilience to climate change and fostering economic solidarity are crucial for creating a better future.
Climate resilience means making our people, places and ecosystems stronger, so we can handle the challenges of climate change. It involves improving our infrastructure, taking care of our natural resources, and making sure our social systems are ready to handle climate impacts. A Solidarity economy creates an economy that works for everyone, where fairness and justice matter. It prioritizes collective well-being and self-autonomy in defining our labor. It’s about making decisions together and tackling inequality.
Locally, our communities are disproportionately impacted by the environmental health impacts of racist land use policies. It’s our neighbors’ health that bears the brunt of neighborhood disinvestment, exposure to toxic air from freeways and industrial activity, and uninhabitable housing. Forced global and local displacement are an attack on our communities health and wellbeing. These are all symptoms of an Extractive economy that values accumulation over our people’s wellbeing. At PODER we are clear that the path forward is co-creating a Regenerative Economy where solidarity economics and grassroots climate resilience model a new path forward. At PODER, we put these ideas into action. Through initiatives like Bicis del Pueblo, we make free bikes available for transit. At Hummingbird Farm, we share the skills of land stewardship to ensure we have control over our public lands and food systems. These projects show how we can make our communities more powerful and thriving. ¡Juntos, estamos construyendo un futuro en el que todos podamos prosperar!
