It’s time to reclaim not only our tax dollars but our power! We firmly believe that the public should have a stake and define how resources are put to work in our local banking institutions in a San Francisco municipal public bank.
As a member of the San Francisco Public Bank Coalition (SFPBC) work to undo the staggering social and environmental costs inflicted upon our city by private banking relationships. Together, we are fighting to establishing a public bank that embodies racial, social, economic, and environmental justice.
Why settle for private ownership when San Francisco taxpayers’ hard-earned money is entrusted to banks that care nothing for our values? These private institutions engage in practices that harm our people and planet, for the sake of profits to line the pockets of unaccountable shareholders.

Imagine an economy that centers on environmental regeneration and community well-being. With a public bank at the helm, we can prioritize lending programs that foster community ownership and generate wealth within our neighborhoods. This means a public bank could finance projects like:
- Housing Cooperatives
- Local Clean Power build out
- Solar installation on public facilities like SFUSD schools
- Building electrification
- Public infrastructure / public transit
- Local enterprise (locally rooted businesses, cooperatives, microenterprises)
- Community land trusts / Land banking
- Community supported agriculture
- Zero Emissions projects and infrastructure
This is a vision we can turn into reality, and your action is crucial in making it happen!
