💚🌱🇵🇸Friday night, under the moon, our 💚🌱🇵🇸Friday night, under the moon, our community gathered at Hummingbird Farm for Palestinian Movie Night. We watched the film 'Jenin, Jenin', a testament to the power of Palestinian resistance.

The Israeli occupation of Palestine, deeply rooted in settler colonialism and imperialist expansion, is fundamentally a question of land and the rights of indigenous peoples. The most recent escalation of the occupation, marked by indiscriminate bombings and mass murders, has reached an unconscionable level of violence. Every land-based people, especially Palestinians, hold the right to defend their ancestral lands against colonization and displacement.

In solidarity with Palestinian struggle, we planted olive and fig trees — symbols of resilience, resistance, and hope. These tree planting were not just about nurturing the soil, but a testament to the power of stewarding our land and honoring our future generations. Accompanied by chants/songs in Arabic, Nahuatl, Spanish, and English, our voices united in calling for a free Palestine. We poured water and offered seashells, with each participant planting their intentions alongside each of the trees.

After the tree planting, we paid homage to Profe Felix Kury, a Palestinian Salvadorean educator. Felix reminded us of the intertwined anti-imperialist struggles in Latin America and Palestine, emphasizing that this fight continues relentlessly. Kury challenged us to remain committed to seeing a free and socialist Palestine and to unite against the tides of displacement and violence.

We left with beautiful prints by @dignidadrebeldeart, visualizing the power shown that night from Hummingbird Farm, San Francisco, all the way to Palestine. Our deep gratitude goes out to our collaborators and co-leaders for making this evening possible: @palestinianyouthmovement @5elementssf.

This gathering served as a moment of healing. In the company of community, we mourned and honored our ancestors, and future generations. We used this time and sacred space to heal as best we could, drawing strength from our shared hopes and struggles.

Let's continue to build solidarity, resistance and sow the seeds of dignity and power. 🇵🇸🌱💚
Bay Area turns out for a Free Palestine! Bay Area turns out for a Free Palestine!
🎉🏠 Today is the grand opening of Kapuso Uppe 🎉🏠 Today is the grand opening of Kapuso Upper Yard, a testament to what community-led planning and organizing can achieve! This journey started over a decade ago when residents of our community saw an opportunity to redefine what housing developments can do for us. This was made possible by the people-powered community vision, at Communities United for Health and Justice (@cuhj_sf) and the community at large.🏠🎉

🌏With hard work, advocacy, and grassroots organizing, we turned our people powered vision into a reality. Residents of all ages, languages, and backgrounds came together to lead workshops, planning sessions, and outreach initiatives that all came together to make this incredible moment.

With support from BAAQMD, the Department of Public Health, UC Berkeley, Bodega, and June Jordan School for Equity, we researched and shaped our vision. Together, we identified the Balboa Upper Yard as an ideal site for affordable housing.

CUHJ’s heartfelt event, ‘Home is Where the Heart Is’, played a crucial role in bringing everyone together to present the planning project's outcomes. Thanks to neighborhood groups, and over 100 grassroots community planners, our collective voice shaped this development to meet the needs of the neighborhood and its people. 🌏

🚉 Kapuso Upper Yard embodies the goals of transit-friendly and 100% affordable housing.
Our success at the Balboa Upper Yard should set an example of people focused planning for an ever-changing city to always keep its people at the forefront.🚉

🛠🌟 We're also thrilled to open the newest @bicisdelpueblo shop space on the first floor! 🌟🛠

‘Bicis del Pueblo’ programming will soon be in full effect in the Excelsior at Kapuso Upper Yard. As an extension of our Mission space at La Fenix, we will be offering our bici-para-ti program, bike repairs, workshops, and a place for neighbors to connect.

None of this would be possible without YOU, the community, who stood up, shared ideas, and did the work. Today, we see the fruits of our collective labor.

Let's continue to set the bar for what community-led, people-focused development can be in our city.
We’re still buzzing from the Active Communities We’re still buzzing from the Active Communities showcase with @bicisdelpueblo & @chineseprogressiveassociation at Hummingbird Farm (@urbancampesinx )last Friday! 🌿🚲

Our powerful crew of young leaders guided a beautiful intergenerational crowd of community members through a series of powerful activities. They fueled insightful community discussions about our collective vision for a just and equitable active transportation plan and city. 🚀🚴🚌

Bikes and public transit were centered not just as symbolic responses to climate chaos, but as concrete, tangible tools for change - real steps towards divesting from the fossil fuel economy. 🌎

Three core activities shaped the day:

1️⃣ We delved into the infrastructure needs in our South East neighborhoods, understanding the systemic links between infrastructure decisions and the displacement of working-class racialized peoples. 🏘️🚧

2️⃣ A mapping station became the canvas for our community's stories of movement. As we marked our essential trips and commutes, we painted a vivid picture of our city's mobility. These shared experiences enabled us to identify where resources are needed to ensure everyone's mobility needs are met. 🗺️

3️⃣ We showcased the incredible productive potential of bikes beyond commuting with our bici-maquina powered smoothie station, reinforcing the idea of bikes as multi-faceted tools for change. 🚲🍹

Throughout the sunny evening of deep relationship building and joy, our community solutions, committed to building the new, were in direct response to systems of inequality rooted in racism, patriarchy, and settler colonialism. These harmful systems stand in the way of transit justice.

Last Friday afternoon was another step in PODER’s ongoing work towards a just transition from extractive economies. If you missed the fun this time, don't worry! Join us for our next Active Communities Planning session (this time in the Mission) on Tuesday, Aug 8th, 5-7pm at 1950 Mission St. Let's keep the momentum going and continue the journey toward transit justice together! 🌈👥

🚲🌱🙌🏽What does transit and mobility jus 🚲🌱🙌🏽What does transit and mobility justice look like? Hella youth on bikes at farms! This summer, PODER, together with @chineseprogressiveassociation brought 20 youth from Southeast communities in SF to explore the intersections of Environmental Justice through transit and mobility. @bicisdelpueblo equipped them with bikes and the necessary skills to ride through our streets, analyzing infrastructure needs to make active transport in our communities safe and fun for everyone. To wrap up our summer, we invite you to learn from youth through interactive activities and to shape what true transit/mobility justice looks like on the ground. Join Common Roots youth this Friday, July 21st at Hummingbird Farm from 4-6pm! 🚦🚲🌱🙌🏽

Although we have been successful in growing plants and community in the last 5 years, our funding has been cut in the mayor’s new proposed budget that prioritizes funding cops. In time of climate chaos, defunding community led solutions for climate resilience is not the answer. It is violent and it is against community’s needs.
